The Session is the council of the congregation composed of those duly elected by the congregation to active service. “The Session has the responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness.” (Book of Order:G-3.0201) In doing so, the Session strives to meet the great Ends of the Church which are:
“the proclamation of the Gospel for the salvation of humankind;
the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God;
the maintenance of divine worship;
the preservation of the truth;
the promotion of social righteousness; and
the exhibition of the kingdom of heaven to the world.” (Book of Order F-1.0304)
